Al Timms Takes The Reins At Shadowfax

It’s great to announce that Alister Timms has taken the helm at Victorian favourite Shadowfax.
Long-serving vineyard manager & assistant winemaker Al (photo courtesy Elizabeth Clancy Photography) has spent the past decade getting the best out of Shadowfax‘s various vineyards and establishing its Little Hampton property in the Macedon Ranges – a vastly exciting site for cool-climate, high-altitude Chardonnay, Pinot Noir & Pinot Gris.
He’ll continue to focus on these varieties and this region, the coolest wine-growing area on the Australian mainland, while maintaining the superb progress of the southern France-inspired Minnow wines from the plantings at Werribee.
“I look forward to building on the foundation we’ve created over the years & seeing our vineyards reach their full potential – and to follow that through in the winery,” he says.
Al started working at Shadowfax shortly after completing this second degree, and held the assistant winemaker position for three years before moving back home to run his family’s winery, Kilgour Estate.
In 2008, Al returned to Shadowfax, forming a dynamic partnership with our great friend Matt Harrop.
When Matt decided to leave Shadowfax earlier this month, after almost 20 years as winemaker, Al was the obvious choice as his replacement.
We wish the very best to our great friend Matt Harrop, and can’t wait to see how Al and the team continue to drive this wonderful estate forward.
