CellarHand Newsletter October 2016

koomilya-bottle-informal-2014A little more noise on the imports side than the home front this month. Top story, though, is the long-awaited release of Koomilya. The culmination of a spiritual journey by Stephen Pannell, ending up with his own piece of viticultural paradise – a McLaren Vale vineyard he fell in love with decades ago as a young winemaker. Elsewhere, we have Tassie sparkling star Stefano Lubiana rebadging its ever-popular Brut Reserve NV with the release of the new cuvée based on the fab 2013 vintage. Shadowfax and Burn Cottage are in the news for their Pinot perfection, and the guys at Napoleone Brewers are on smokin’ form with their new rauchbier.
From overseas, we have a full array of brilliant Burgenland wines from Rosi Schuster. (This is one that may’ve snuck under your radar, but it’s way too good to ignore.) Gerhard Pittnauer‘s creative streak continues with his zero-input Pitt Nat sparkling and restocks of the rapid sellout skin-contact white blend, Mash Pitt. Ingrid Groiss is back with a brace of old-vine Grüner Veltliner, we have Cigliuti‘s divine Langhe Nebbiolo back again and, from the much-vaunted 2015 vintage in the Mosel, a trio of Dr. Loosen Kabinetts is here.
