About Cullen

Di and Kevin Cullen were pioneers in Margaret River and today Cullen is one of Australia’s most highly regarded wineries. Vanya Cullen, Australia’s first female wine judge and Qantas Winemaker of the Year in 2000, has been relentless in her pursuit of excellence. The Chardonnay, Semillon Sauvignon Blanc and Diana Madeline are rightly considered among the best of their ilk, thanks to her unstinting commitment to low-yielding, biodynamically managed vineyards. The other wines in the range possess a similar dimension of individuality and quality. Under Vanya’s inspired guiding hand Cullen, truly one of Australia's iconic producers, continues to push the boundaries and edge closer and closer to perfection. Certified Biodynamic

Vanya Cullen has been working on the farm most of her life and has been making wine at her family’s Wilyabrup estate since 1983. She was appointed chief winemaker in 1989 and managing director in 1999. During that time she’s rigorously experimented in the vineyard (especially with soil and trellis management) and winery in a quest to give her wines greater complexity. She’s honed her palate by judging throughout Australia and overseas, and by continuous pursuing knowledge of the wines of the world.
Over the past decade, Vanya’s transformed Cullen from one of Margaret River’s best into one of the country’s premium boutique wineries, making quality wine from a certified biodynamic, carbon neutral and naturally-powered estate. She was the winner of the 2000 Qantas Winemaker of the year - the first Western Australian and the first woman to win the award. In 2008, she was awarded the UK Drinks Business magazine’s “Woman of the Year” and was inducted into Australian Businesswomen's Hall of Fame in 2015.
