2018 Bründlmayer Grüner Veltliner Kamptal Terrassen
Bründlmayer
This Grüner Veltliner is a blend of wines sourced from different terraced vineyards at altitudes of 260m to 380m. The elevated terraces consist of stonier soils (schisted granite). The vines there show aromatic expression, good acidity, elegant stone fruit and lots of minerals. The lower-sited terraces mostly of layered fertile loess show more body and ripeness. By combining those two characteristics Bründlmayer produces a classic Grüner Veltliner with both finesse and a certain vigour.

White pepper, pear and apple, hay and caramel. Juicy and full of flavour, spicy and chalky, kind of savoury too with chicken and herbs in the mix. Finish is umami and spicy, and fairly long. Tickle of spritz here too.

The Australian
The terraced vineyards of Kamptal provide the fruit for this Grüner that's brimming with vitality. Blending from higher granitic sites and lower loess layered soils give a wine of striking balance and nuance. The nose is at once herbal and flinty with notes of sage, brown river rock and nectarine. A savoury meatiness, like roast chicken skin, also pops up, perhaps subliminally suggesting a food match. The palate shows firmly stacked minerals, white pepper spice and stone fruit acidity.
