2013 Chalmers Nero d'Avola
Chalmers
100% de-stemmed and fermented in open fermenters without yeast addition. Fermentation typically goes for 20 days. The wine is then pressed and matured in old French barriques. Malolactic fermentation is natural. The wine is then bottled without fining and with little or no filtration after about 9 months to retain freshness and vibrancy.
The 2013 Heathcote Nero d’Avola is deliberately made in a crunchy acid, lifted red-fruit style reminiscent of the Cerasuolo wines. This vibrant, juicy Nero d’Avola has a pretty nose of ripe raspberry and the classic tar and Mediterranean herb varietal characters, underpinned by power and graphite notes from the Cambrian terroir. The medium-bodied palate is savoury with subtle tannins and a fresh finish.

A distinctly savoury/earthy make-up to this light to medium-bodied wine, with red fruits glittering in the background, the tannins are very fine, the overall balance good. Definitely a wine in search of food.
