2013 Dönnhoff Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Riesling Spätlese
Dönnhoff
A perfect, steep southern slope with soils consisting of blackish grey slate and volcanic elements, extremely rich in minerals. This legendary site is the best-rated vineyard in the entire Nahe region. The vines are up to 60 years old and give yields of about 35hl/ha. 100% selective hand harvest. The must is fermented and the wine matured in stainless steel vats. Noble, classic Spätlese, with full rich fruits on the nose and, despite its impressive intensity, dancingly elegant and buoyant.

Smoky notes, some wet stone, freshly zested mixed citrus. Juicy and crisp texture to taste, but also has an inward concentration matched to a bristle of zingy acidity. Quite a unique flavour spectrum, complex, layered, with a tingle through the finish. Pretty epic in its drive and energy, finding supreme interest and balance. Wicked.

Cool smell, lots of flint and firm acidity, juiciness of peppermint, lemon and mango sweetness. Bell clear acidity, flinty and dry on the finish. So refreshing.
