2017 F.X. Pichler Grüner Veltliner Dürnsteiner Smaragd
F.X. Pichler
This is the Grüner Veltliner formerly labelled as Urgestein Terrassen. It's a blend of F.X. Pichler's vineyards in Dürnstein, historically small parcels from Kellerberg, Loibenberg, Mühlpoint and Steinertal. 60% comes from the terraces, and the balance from the flat. Floral with nicely defined fruit. Juicy and intense on the palate with a whack of mineral, spice and grapefruit kicking in through the finish. - Ed Merrison, CellarHand

Spice, ginger, juicy grapefruit, green banana, creamy vanilla yoghurt smoothness, but bright and fresh too, lively and weighty, then comes the pepper and celery on a long cool finish. Wonderful.

The Pichler family have been farmers in the region for five generations, with the estate founded in 1971. This wine has superb purity and vitality of citrus, apple and spicy fruits. The palate is full-bodied and intense driven to a long finish by a crisp line of acidity.

Ripe white fruit, generous body and an open heart make this a very appealing Grüner Veltliner. An impressive combination of richness and enough acidity to keep it lively. Drink now. Screw cap.
