2009 Jacquesson Dizy Terres Rouges Rosé
Jacquesson
The lieu-dit of Terres Rouges can be found on a shelf located on the lower slopes of the Premier Cru vignoble of Dizy where Jacquesson farms more than 6 hectares, half of them planted to Pinot Noir, half to Pinot Meunier. Terres Rouges, so called for its reddish-brown calcareous soil lying on chalky silt deposits, has deep, lightly stony and well drained terrain which benefits from good hydrous reserves. The vine takes root easily, and can find water and minerals deep in the sub-soil.
The 2009 season saw a very cold and dry winter, while spring was mild and rainy; overall, the summer was hot and characterised by sunshine that stretched to vintage and beyond. All the harvest was destemmed and crushed, followed by short maceration for 50% of the grapes whilst the other half underwent a simple running off of free run juice. The grapes were picked on 19th September 2009 at 11.7% alcohol, 6.5g/L acidity. Bottled on 18th June 2010 and disgorged in January 2016.

The 2009 Dizy-Terres Rouges Rosé is an unusual Champagne for Jacquesson in that is the first time this wine was bottled with no dosage. Crushed rose petal, tobacco, anise and star anise are all super-expressive, but the non-dosage style results in a powerful, almost tannic Rosé endowed with considerable structure and intensity. Readers should expect an intense Rosé that will offer its best drinking at the dinner table. Hints of crushed rose petal, tobacco, and star anise add the closing shades of nuance. Disgorged January 2016.
