2015 Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Séchets
Louis Michel
From one of the domaine’s old parcels that used to be blended into Vaillons. Kimmeridgian soils on the left bank. Hard limestone on a clay base, relatively deep soil with a browny red appearance. Vines with an average age of 30 years.

Honeysuckle and jasmine, oranges and lemon, a little star anise, and a suggestion of wet clay, but don’t mind me. It’s got a bit of weight and flavour, a succulence and gloss – a certain flamboyance – but pulls all sea shell and mineral, with the richness of honey lemon cut with herbs and flint. Good length, and so much drinking appeal and charm. Great now, for my tastes.

Exotic orange peel, sexy spices and a whiff of earth on the inviting nose. Fat, sweet, pliant premier cru with enlivening hints of white pepper and fresh herbs. This nicely concentrated premier cru finishes with firm, dusty minerality and excellent lift.

This is aromatically cooler than the Vaillons with its airy combination of algae, lemon rind and wet stone where the latter element can also be found on the equally sleek, intense and energetic medium weight flavors that conclude in a slightly drier and more saline if fruitier finale.
