2011 Moric Reserve Blaufränkisch
Moric
This wine marries the great heritage of Neckenmarkt and Lutzmannsburg, and embodies Moric's concept of 'reserve' quality: selection in distinct vineyards with specific attributes regarding vine age, site and soil – just the best barrels coming out of these vineyards find their way into the Reserve Blend. Mainly based on limestone origins, the elegance and distinctive spice of the Neckenmarkter component and the earthy floral aromas of Lutzmannsburg combine to show a unity of great structure and finesse.
Grapes from 26-60 year old vines. Natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts in open vats and oak for 3-4 weeks on the skins. Natural malolactic fermentation. Aged 24 months in oak barrels 500-3600 litre. No fining. No filtration. No additives, except tiny quantities of sulfites. As a result of that, all of the Moric wines are vegan.

Medium to dark garnet in the glass, this barrel sample smells of raspberries and wet stones and dried flowers. In the mouth, the wine has a wonderful spiciness with notes of black pepper that underlie flavors of wet stone and rainwater that seem merely scented with fresh raspberries and crushed herbs. Faint, powdery tannins coat the mouth and seem to tighten slightly on the palate as bright airy herbs and wet earth sail through a long finish. 13.5% alcohol.

Raymond Chan Wine Reviews
19-/20
Very dark, near impenetrable, black-red colour. This has a very fresh, aromatic and intensely concentrated and refined bouquet of dark red and black fruits entwined with black pepper, liquorice and tar notes, lifted by black floral fragrances. Medium-full bodied, bright, fresh and concentrated flavours of black berried fruits show with sweetness and are enhanced by layers of pepper, liquorice and florals. Some oak lift adds to the liveliness. The fruit is supported by very fine-grained tannins and fine, lacy acidity lending elegance of proportion and lively flow. This has freshness, bright fruit and vitality, and is very contemporary. 5-7+ years. Mittelburgenland, Burgenland. Indigenous yeast fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged in large format wood.
