THE GRAPES AND THE VINTAGE
In 2013 the Punt Road Pinot Noir was sourced from the Napoleone’s low-yielding vineyards in Coldstream. This outstanding 30 year old vineyard produces fruit with excellent depth of flavour. 2013 was a fine growing season with warm, dry weather and enough soil moisture to allow the vines to develop beautifully balanced fruit with excellent flavour.
Hand-picked and de-stemmed but not crushed, then gently transferred to small open vessels for fermentation with varying degrees of whole bunch and whole berry fermentations. Regular plunging throughout fermentation helped to extract colour and flavour. After fermentation the parcels were lightly pressed and racked to a variety of French oak barrels (25% new) where the wine was matured for 10 months allowing for savoury, integrated oak nuances.
Perfumed and bright on the nose with fresh red berry fruits and subtle, sweet spice. The palate is vibrant yet firm, with lovely whole bunch and fresh cherry characters leading to a fine, long finish.
