2013 Scorpo Estate Pinot Noir
Scorpo
Ruby red, with a dynamic bouquet embracing the sweet earthiness of clove, kola nut and mushroom along with a strawberry-rhubarb fruitiness. A lush and deep expression of pinot noir, this beguiling wine possesses a lengthy, powerful finish with firm graphite tannin.

A standout release. Generosity of perfume and fruit is exemplary, though there is certainly no lack of acid or tannin structure. Foresty dark cherries, plum, spices, meaty oak, perhaps even fennel. The overall effect is thoroughly gorgeous.

I tasted through most of the latest Scorpo releases today and came away mightily impressed. You never know with the fall of vintages but it felt like the quality had gone up a gear. This pinot noir is a beauty. It’s plush and fruit-generous but kempt in all respects. It tastes of dark cherries, plum, foresty berries and meaty oak, and has an undercurrent of those dried, minty, leafy spices so common to Australian red wine. It’s light and fragrant yet powerful; most of all, it’s irresistibly seductive.
