2013 TWR Single-Vineyard 5182 Pinot Noir
TWR
All fruit for this wine was handpicked, hand-sorted, destemmed without crushing and transferred to small one-tonne open fermenters, hand-plunged up to four times daily. Each clone was fermented separately. Some parcels had a small percentage of whole bunches included. The majority were inoculated with selected yeasts, with a small proportion wild fermented. The fruit had a 7-9 day cold soak, a 5-7 day ferment, and then post-ferment maceration for 8-10 days. Pressed off on taste and then filled to oak after 24 hours. In French oak (30% new) from various coopers for 12 months.
This Pinot shows fragrant notes of ripe strawberry and cherry with hints of violets, mocha, spice and some savoury undertones. The finely textured, silky tannins combine with flavours of strawberry and omega plum. The palate carries into more complex, savoury flavours and finishes with a lingering persistence of fruit, fine tannin and integrated oak.

This represents a selected parcel that has been singled out as the best expression of Te Whare Ra's site. It has an enchantingly bright and perfumed nose with violet-like florals, sweet baking spices and beautifully pure red cherry fruits. The palate has impressive structure and textural complexity, the tannins swirl, the acidity shines and the fruit flavours in the red cherry and redcurrant spectrum run deep, long and deceptively powerful. Drink in 2017.

Aromatic pinot noir with bright cherry, raspberry, plum and spice and anise flavours. This elegant and seductively drinkable wine doesn’t lack power but delivers it with great subtlety. Silken texture and a very lengthy finish.

A mood of savoury complexity of beetroot and dried spice provides an alluring backdrop to dark berry/cherry fruit of well-toned refinement and fine-tuned, intricately ground, mineral-fine, silky tannin structure. It’s tightly wound yet expressively characterful, very long, masterfully crafted and poised for a confident future.

5182 is TWR's BioGro (organic registration) number. Quite an aromatic Pinot Noir with bright cherry, raspberry, plum and anise flavours. This elegant and seductively drinkable wine doesn't lack power, but delivers it with great subtlety.

Light in colour but crunchy and powerful. This sure makes an impression. Redcurrant and assorted red/black berries, woodsmoke, smoky reduction, dry spices. It’s all going on. The berry flavours tend towards the darker, denser end of the spectrum despite the lightness of colour. Strong strings of tannin tie it all together. Pretty impressive all over. Will mature well.
