Happy newish year! Yes, we had a hiatus in January – a traditionally slow news month in the wine world following the end-of-year excess.
And then February sees us plunge straight back into the deep-end with a pair of A-list domestic releases alongside a host of international arrivals. At home, we have the 2018 release from the de Pury family’s iconic Yarra Valley estate, Yeringberg. Over from WA, it’s the Langworthys of Yallingup making a splash with the 2019 single-vineyard Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon from Nocturne.
France takes centre stage on the imports front, with 2018 wines from Burgundy domaines Matrot and Latour-Giraud, plus Louis Michel in Chablis and André Bonhomme. Elsewhere we have the excellent 743 Champagne cuvée from Jacquesson, 2019 Beaujolais from Dominique Piron and vintage rolls for Paul Blanck in Alsace.
And from there we’re off to Italy and beyond. There are tiny quantities of highly sought-after 2016 Barolo from G.D. Vajra, 2017 Barbaresco from Cigliuti, and La Spinetta’s debut with the rare Piedmontese white Timorasso grape. And from a tad further field – Armenia, no less – we have a wonderful new rendition of Zorah’s amphora-raised Karasì wine from the indigenous Areni Noir grape.
All in all, we’re riding a wave of exhilarating wine into 2021, and we wish you the very best for times ahead!
