CellarHand Newsletter June 2018

No signs of things cooling off on the home front this winter! We have warm celebrations for the wonderful Smith Cullam family at Frankland Estate, toasting 30 years since planting Isolation Ridge with a great set of ’17 single-vineyard Riesling plus the ’17 Isolation Ridge Shiraz and Olmo’s Reward Cab Franc-dominant Bordeaux blend. Stephen Pannell, McLaren Vale-based maestro of contemporary Aussie wine shines a light on provenance with a deliciously diverse set of new releases, plus Burn Cottage of Central Otago has put out its 2016 Pinot. Accolades are flowing for the likes of Heartland and TWR, and rave reviews are emerging for Yeringberg and Shadowfax. There’s a Red Moon rising for Margaret River’s peerless Vanya Cullen, and the Barrys of clos Clare have Rieslings out from two of the best Watervale vintages of the 21st century.
On the imports front, we’re welcoming the Vaira family of Barolo to the portfolio, championing the rising star of Johannes Hasselbach of Gunderloch, hailing a rebadged Riesling from Domäne Wachau, and popping the cork on more massive show success for English sparkling wine estate, Hattingley Valley.
