About Masottina

There's a particular kind of light that bathes the UNESCO-listed Prosecco Hills between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene.  These long, steep slopes are made up of vineyards, planted on grassed terraces, called ciglioni, which create a patchwork pattern amongst the surrounding forests and small settlements.

It is in these hills, under this light, that the Dal Bianco family of Masottina have been growing Glera grapes for their world-renowned Prosecco for 80 years. Masottina was founded by Epifanio Dal Bianco in 1946 and is now run by his son, Adriano and grandsons Filippo and Federico. It was Adriano and his brothers who designed and built the Terre di Ogliano winery, built completely underground so as to blend into the hillsides of the UNESCO World Heritage area.

The naturally low temperatures of the gravity-fed winery minimise energy usage and most of the electricity required is via renewable energy sources.  The environment is also safeguarded by regenerating and purifying wastewater and all viticultural bio-mass from pruning and harvest is channelled back into the company's operations.

About Dal Bianco Family

The Dal Bianco family has been behind Masottina since 1946, when Epifanio Dal Bianco purchased the five-hectare Ai Palazzi estate at Gorgo al Monticano. During renovations of the old farmhouse, the words Casa Masottina were uncovered on one of its walls, giving the family business its name.

Epifanio’s eldest son Adriano Dal Bianco, an oenologist trained at the historic Conegliano Wine School, drove the next chapter, expanding the family’s vineyards and investing heavily in both technology and winemaking. Today, Masottina remains firmly family-run, with the third generation working alongside Adriano: Filippo oversees sales, while Federico is Vice President and works closely with his father across the vineyards and winery. Across three generations, the Dal Biancos have grown from those original five hectares to more than 370 hectares of vineyards, while retaining control from vineyard through to bottling.
