About Strelley Farm

Strelley Farm is located on Brinktop Road just 650 metres from the historic town of Richmond and the Coal River. Established in the early 1800s, Richmond was a popular stopover for people travelling between Hobart in the south and Launceston in the north. Today, Richmond is one of Tasmania’s most popular tourist destinations with beautiful heritage buildings and Australia’s oldest stone bridge.

Located in the Coal River Valley wine region, Strelley Farm Estate is one of Tasmania’s newest, most exciting and impressive viticultural & winegrowing projects. With the wines being carefully coaxed into bottle by the gentle hand of gun winemaker Liam McElhinney, they showcase exactly why this corner of Tasmania is one of the most exciting hotbeds for Pinot Noir production in the world today. It is early days for Strelley Farm but given the quality of the first few releases from Liam and the team it is going be an exciting journey watching the wines grown on the property evolve, with Chardonnay, Gamay and Pinot Meunier all planted and due to come on line as and when the vines reach maturity.

About Liam McElhinney

Introducing Liam McElhinney - a very interesting character, kind of like a kiwi version of Julian Langworthy, which in itself is a slightly terrifying thought, but like Jules, when jokes are cast aside, he’s deadly serious about crafting the best wines possible. Citing Warren Gibson at Bilancia as his wine mentor, Liam’s star rose with a very successful creation of ‘The Ned’ in Marlborough, which of course went on to great things.

A cool climate expert with experience at NZ’s Marisco, Te Pa and Trinity Hill as well as working in France, Canada and USA, Liam is now fully focussed on and entrenched in Tasmania, and at the helm of the Fogarty family’s Tasmanian vineyard adventure. His expertise has already been recognised with several trophies, including a James Halliday Trophy for Best Pinot Noir, and producing the winning wine of the 2021 Australian Pinot Noir Challenge.
