2011 Bernhard Huber Alte Reben Pinot Noir
Bernhard Huber
The step above is the Pinot Noir Alte Reben. In quality terms, this is Huber's equivalent of a Premier Cru. This Pinot comes from vines of up to 40 years old. Huber harvests the Alte Reben at 37 hl/ha. The ferment contains 35 to 40% whole bunches, with some parcels from the Bienenberg vineyard also going into this. This wine is bottled unfiltered. It has complex, deep aromas of black cherry, dark chocolate and spice but also soft tannins, a frisky-elegant character with a fine echo.

From yields around 30 hl/ha, vines up to 40 years of age, 35-40% whole bunch, some parcels from the Bienenberg vineyard also go into this. Exceptional focus and intensity; texture and structure likewise exceptional; black cherry and spice; very long finish and aftertaste. Length. Drink to 2022; 13% alc; cork.

Dark cherry, some hazelnut oak, sweet earth and spice and pencils. Medium bodied, precise, dark cherry, sappy seasoning, ripe spread of tannin, very good finish. These wines are super. “Come back and taste it again”, I wrote, so I did. Right, back again. And once more for good measure. Yes. Richness of fruit combined with ‘mineral’ and dried herb seasoning is the message. Such high quality, beautiful wine.
