Furmint is the oldest grape of our region. We believe it stayed with us hundreds of years, could be more than a thousand. Local name – šipon (“sheepon”) was obtained when French soldiers stopped and tasted it commenting: “Mhmm, c’est si bon”.
It has a typical pale yellow colour with some golden hues. The nose is discrete, very much in Furmint fashion, featuring apples and pears and lemons. It is the mouth where most of the action is taking place. Bone dry, with cutting acidity, which cleans the palate beautifully. Lighter to medium in body but with full flavour intensity. It feels very interactive in the mouth, constantly stimulating our senses… Long finish with plenty of freshness. A true Furmint character from the Alpine foothills.
Approaching its peak and showing its full potential but can be kept for another 5 years.
