2014 F.X. Pichler Riesling Steinertal Smaragd
F.X. Pichler
This vineyard is located on the eastern end of Wachau, between the Loibenberg and Pfaffenberg sites. It is a small valley section composed of a deeply deposited, weathered gneiss soil. The resulting wine shows off aromas and flavors of vineyard peaches and impresses by its raciness and finesse. It is succulent and displays high drinkability, and is most distinctly characterised by the minerality of the primitive rock soil, which suggests a long future for this.

White peach aromas and flavors, both fresh and penetratingly distillate-like, are accented by fruit pit and smoky Szechuan pepper and wreathed in bittersweet floral perfume. Esterous volatile elements, bittersweet cyanic notes and smoky peppercorns follow throughout a silken-textured, expansive yet exhilaratingly buoyant and energetic palate performance. A crushed-stone suffusion heightens the impression of high extract, leading into a kaleidoscopically complex finish.
