2015 F.X. Pichler Grüner Veltliner Frauenweingarten Federspiel
F.X. Pichler
The name goes back to the nunnery in Dürnstein and is the large vineyard site in the commune of Dürnstein-Loiben. Its vineyards stretch in the Loiben basin, featuring warm soils composed of sands washed out of the Danube and partially interspersed with gravel. This is the ideal terroir for our Federspiel grüners, which are structured like lace, displaying clear and delicate fruit.

Despite mid-September picking, this finished, at 12.3 percent, with a half-degree more alcohol than its 2014 predecessor. Fortunately, the effect remains buoyant and the flavors adequately ripe. Honeydew melon, crisp, just-ripe pear and fresh lime deliver abundant juiciness and zest on a polished palate bursting with flavor, leading to a long, consummately refreshing finish whose crunchy evocations of lettuce and snap pea resolve any doubts about what grape variety is in your glass.

Always the lightest wine from FX Pichler, the 2015 Grüner Veltliner Federspiel Loibner Frauenweingarten is sourced from the flat vineyards in Dürnstein, Oberloiben and Unterloiben. The wine starts with a clear, ripe and intense fruit bouquet which leads to a medium-bodied, lovely juicy and fruit-intense palate with a vivacious, perfectly ripe acidity. Very digestible and ready to drink.
