2017 Heartland Spice Trader Shiraz
Heartland
The Langhorne Creek wine region experienced a long, slow vintage in 2017, beginning with high winter and spring rainfall and leading into an extended, cool ripening phase. Reminiscent of long-past vintages, the grape harvest for 2017 kicked off a good two weeks later than the previous year in Langhorne Creek, with reds not hitting their stride until late March.
The Shiraz was de-stemmed, crushed and pumped over twice a day for 10 days. The wine matured for 12 months in oak prior to bottling.
The aromas are of a fruit compote and freshly baked apple and raspberry pie. The longer you leave it, the more you get. Black currants and dark forest fruits are cushioned by soft tannins providing a plush palate with a hint of Christmas spice on the finish. This is ready for enjoyment any time from release.
