2018 Heartland Spice Trader Shiraz
Heartland
The Langhorne Creek wine region experienced steady winter rainfall and multiple flood events that gave growers good storage of moisture and healthy vines leading into the growing season. Summer temperatures offered up the robust fruit characters and bold structure that Shiraz loves to present.
The fruit for Heartland Spice Trader Shiraz comes from vines aged 25 years and over, growing in soils of sandy loam. The bunches were de-stemmed, crushed and pumped over twice a day for nine days. The wine matured for 12 months in one- to three-year old French and American oak hogsheads prior to bottling.
The colour is dark and intense. Plump and generous notes of dark berry fruit dominate the nose with a hint of spice adding character and complexity. The palate is rich and intense with the fresh berries complemented with deeper berry compote and fruitcake spice. - Ben Glaetzer
