2017 Huia Sauvignon Blanc
Huia
The Sauvignon Blanc 2017 was harvested from two BioGro-certified organic estate vineyards. The grapes were pressed, with the different vineyards kept in separate vessels. The Huia home block has well-draining alluvial river-run soils. The sandy silts and stones supply excellent drainage and retain the sun’s heat overnight which contributes to the grape’s ripe tropical characters. The Winsome vineyard soil is clay base mixed with black sand. Hotter days and cooler nights in this location create floral elderflower aromas along with red bell pepper and lime-based mineral flavours. A 30% portion was fermented in neutral French oak to add further richness and complexity to the wine. Most of the wine was fermented using one yeast that is accepted as organic and non-GMO and the only other fermentation yeast used are wild yeasts that live in the winery. The wines are not fined for clarity before bottling. Vegan and vegetarian friendly. – Claire Allan
Limey tropical notes on the nose, along with doughy lees and wet stone suggestions. Good texture as always and the flavour flows; very well integrated. Medium bodied and with good intensity of flavour. Lemongrass and smoke chime in. Mouthwatering, pithy-grapefruit finish with a bit of grip. - Ed Merrison, CellarHand
