2013 Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Montmain
Louis Michel
Our Montmain vines were gradually replanted between 1983 and 1989. These four vineyards are spread along a clay hillside known to be sensitive to spring frosts. When the frost season arrives, we pay particular attention to this vineyard.
Terroir:
Kimmeridgian. Left Bank. Hard limestone with a clay base, soil is quite deep in some places.
Grape:
100% Chardonnay.
Average age of the vines:
22 years
Vinification:
With no added yeast, long fermentation using natural yeast, in temperature-regulated tank. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation.
Maturing
On fine lees, only in stainless steel tanks, with as little manipulation as possible, during 12 months minimum. Long stabulation at moderated low temperatures. Fining if necessary using bentonite. One light filtration is performed before bottling.

Distinct cool perfume of aniseed or fennel, honeysuckle and sweet lemon. Medium bodied, juicy burst of citrus, almond glossiness and flavour, tight finish with a cool green herb and floral perfume. Some chalkiness too, though it’s a purer expression driven by freshness and high drinking appeal. Hard to stop drinking.

The 2013 Chablis Montmains is bright, focused and nicely articulated in the glass. Lemon peel, almonds, spices and white flowers race across the palate in a tense, vibrant Chablis loaded with pure class and energy.
