2010 Polz Sauvignon Blanc Hochgrassnitzberg Grosse STK Lage
Hochgrassnitzberg is the best grand cru on our estate. The special feature of this location is the shell limestone (residue of an old reef), on which the vines stand – this combined with the special microclimate give the wines their unmistakeably elegant character.
Location and exposure
upper slopes, 20° south west
Root penetration depth
21% sand, 45% silt,
Less aromatic than the two 2012s, still recognisably Sauvignon Blanc but more 'complex white wine' than simply varietal Sauvignon. Really tangy grapefruit on the palate, maybe orange pith too. Seems quite light bodied given the alcohol but it's pretty long. Clean-cut grapefruit aftertaste. Elegant and fresh and dry and remarkably youthful.
