2009 Prager Riesling Klaus Smaragd
Weingut Prager
The Klaus vineyard is one of the Wachau's best, a luxurious vineyard that sits on steep slopes directly under the Achleiten. We'd call Klaus the Wachau's version of Montrachet, whereas the Achleiten is like Corton-Charlemagne; the former is rich and gushing, the latter chiseled and mineral.
The 2009 is a little more plump than you would expect but in the most positive way. It still has chisel, sinewy texture and glorious strong acidity. The nose is laced with honey and saline whilst the palate is bright lemon pith and muscular tones of minerals and sea salt with lashings of grapefruit. It is a wine of great presence and power.
