2013 Scorpo Noirien Pinot Noir
Scorpo
Paul Scorpo produces some truly superb fruit from his meticulously planted vineyard on the Mornington Peninsula. With the help of Sandro Moselle at Kooyong winery, the Scorpo range has deservedly received some serious attention. In a very short space of time Scorpo has built a reputation for making some of the Peninsula’s best wines.
Possessing a lively red hue, this wine reveals an aroma of abundant forest fruit with hints of savoury, meaty complexity. A velvety palate and vibrant black cherry and orange peel flavours fuse effortlessly with the fine yet persistent tannin.

Noirien is an ancient Burgundian synonym for pinot noir. Destemmed and wild-fermented at relatively low temperatures, then pressed and taken to French oak (5% new) for 10 months maturation; neither fined nor filtered. Excellent, bright colour; the bouquet and - in particular - the palate are so full of dark cherry and plum fruit I would be giving this wine the benefit of several years in bottle, fortified in my decision by the fine, ripe and balanced tannins.
