Scorpo
Scorpo has for some time sat comfortably within the highest rank of Australian cool-climate winegrowers, quietly composing excellent wines and steadily raising the bar year upon year. The planning, planting, nurturing and honing of the vineyard absorb the attention of trained horticulturist and landscape architect Paul Scorpo. The process of perfecting the site continues, with closer plantings and more precise clonal selections the latest developments. Year in year out this is a great value, shining example of the regionally typical, elegance, Mornington Chardonnay.
The fruit is grown on the Merricks North vineyard. The I10v1 clone Chardonnay was handpicked. 100% whole bunch-pressed. No malolactic conversion. Fermented with natural yeast in old oak barrels and 5% new oak. No bâtonnage. Suitable for vegans.

Dijon clones 95 and 76, hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed, wild-fermented in French barriques (5% new). Here too, the fruit and mouthfeel have a sense of urgency as the fruit makes an immediate impact. The flavours too, are different to the Estate version, white peach and rock melon in the frame.

The year has delivered a slightly richer style, and under the light struck match there’s a pear and almond creaminess, along with fine controlling acidity, some chalky texture, and a subtle (pleasant) lime zest bitterness on a pretty long finish. It feels warm and cool at once, if that makes any sense. This is very good drinking as at now.
